1 Forward Base Support Unit

Date Raised : 1972-08-01 Location : Amritsar
After partition, DGCA took over the control of Amritsar Air Field from the Royal Air Force. Since then Amritsar has been mainly a civil Air Field with the Air Force operating its detachments from time to time. After the Indo-Pak war of 1965, the requirement of establishing an IAF Base at Rajasansi was felt. The need was primarily to have the ability of launching air attacks against strategic targets deep inside the territory of our western adversary and also to launch offensive missions in support of the army. To cater for this, No.4 MEMU (Mobile Echelon Maintenance Units) was established in 1966 at Rajasansi. At that time the runway and other infrastructure was under the DGCA. The base was subsequently re-designated as No. 1 FBSU AF on 01 Aug 1972.
Unit previously existed as 4 MEMU
